Background
QQ is a popular instant messaging platform used primarily by Chinese-speaking individuals worldwide. Since its inception in 1999, it has evolved into one of the most widely used social media platforms globally, boasting over 800 million active users as of 2023 (Tencent). One key feature that contributes significantly to its appeal is the ability to create groups for various purposes such as sharing information, discussing hobbies or interests, or engaging in discussions related to specific topics.
Methodology
This study employed qualitative discourse analysis methods involving content analysis and thematic coding techniques on publicly available data from QQ groups across different regions and languages (including English). Data collection involved manually browsing publically accessible group chat logs using relevant keywords related to the topic at hand (e.g., "English learners," "foodies," "environmental conservation"). This allowed researchers access without violating user privacy concerns.

The results indicate several recurring themes within QQ group category labels:
a) Hobbies & Interests - Many groups focused on specific hobbies like photography ("Photography Enthusiasts"), gaming ("Gaming Community"), music ("Music Lovers"), sports ("Sports Fans"), art ("Artists Unite"), literature ("Bookworms Club") etc.

c) Social Activities - These include friendship-building communities ('Friendship Circle'), dating services ('Love Seekers'), community service initiatives ('Volunteer Network') etc.
d) Cultural Exchange - Some groups focused on promoting cultural exchange between people from different countries/regions like 'International Students' or 'Cultural Ambassadors'.
e) Personal Development - Self-improvement-oriented groups emerged focusing on health-related issues like fitness goals('Fitness Journey') mental wellbeing('Mental Health Support').
Discussion
These findings reveal how users are actively engaged in creating meaningful connections through shared experiences while utilizing language resources efficiently via these digital channels.
